Hotels HistoryThe Yeovil Court Hotel. A mildly Amusing Story & History
I, Brian Devonport, spent some years being an unsuccessful footballer and then many others at Trans World Airlines in public relations, I was that good the airline finally went broke. I then met Peter Barlow and over a few beers, may be ten or so, we decided to leave Windsor and go west to open a pub (as you do) After three years, (most of them hazy!!!) we purchased our current site, The Highland Hotel, a broken down B&B.
Eighteen months later,1987, we opened The Yeovil Court Hotel, with eighteen bedrooms, a restaurant, bar and conference facilities. It was there I met Carol, and through hard work and some luck we started to make headway. Peter my partner departed in 1992 and went his own way although we remain good friends to this day. In 1997 we built a further twelve rooms with the help of my great friend “the local builder” Alan Whetham.

The hotel now:
We continued to make good progress with the help of Martin Hooper, my manager, after many laughs and great experiences Martin left and was replaced by Cinzia Carrieri who brought with her a wealth of hotel experience and four languages The Hotel has a following of business and leisure trade from around the world.
Myself and Carol decided to separate but we continue to be friends and along with Cinzia continue to run the YCH.
A special mention goes to the following without whom none of the above would have been possible: Bob Gladwell, Alan and Wendy Whetham , John and Alison Roehrig, Dave McMahan, Malcom Barwick, Mark and Jenny Royal, Flora Patterson, Terry Clair, Ronnie Mcewan, Martin Hooper, Cinzia Carrieri, Roger Pudner, Eric Carvill, John Pittard, Clive Gibbs(Gibbo), Stuart Saunders, Terry Collins, Lee Crawford, Pip and Sarah, Chris Whally, Chris Chapman, Paul Mehoff, Howard Mosley, Carol P and Michelle (four times) Mee, and all the staff that is still working with me.
And for seeing me through bad times: Adrian and Debbie, John and Pam, “crazy” Lucy Britton, Bonne Barwick , Kenny Thompson and Trevor Griffin
Special mention to TT.
If I’ve forgotten you, sorry!
Also a great thank you for all the customers whom have used the hotel for the past twenty-one years
Brian Devonport
